Engaging God's Word Through the Arts

Inspiration From The Creator

As creatives (visual artists, musicians, poets, writers, and dancers), His Word breathes Life into our most personal work.  The fact that God’s Word is living and active (Hebrews 4:12) means that it is working in and through us, preparing and equipping us for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17). You will be excited to see how inspired you become while creating with your Creator.

Being made in God’s image (Genesis 1:26-27), our Creator designed us to create (Exodus 31:1-6, Exodus 35: 20-35).  We cannot fully engage in creativity apart from His Word, as all creation has the purpose of declaring His Glory.  Day after day, night after night, God’s glory is on display.  The skies display is not for the ear, but for the eye and the heart.  Like the sky, we have the ability as visual artists to declare the glory of God day and night (Psalm 19:1-2).

Furthermore, the talents God has given us are not meant for personal gain, but to serve the Lord and others; an investment in the Kingdom (Matthew 25:23), We are designed to share the Gospel through the talents and gifts He has given us to use.

God wants to engage with you and your creativity, “to make you intelligent and discerning in knowing Him personally, your eyes focused and clear, so that you can see exactly what He is calling you to do, grasp the immensity of His glorious way of life He has for His followers, oh, the utter extravagance of His work in us who trust Him - endless energy, boundless strength” (Ephesians 1:17-18 MSG). Your art/music/writing matter to Him. This course is meant to be personal to your creative heart and mind.  An invitation to the thirsty (Isaiah 55).  For us to come, sit with the Holy Spirit in God’s Word and create.  Allow his Word to transform you (Psalm 51:10).

You will never run out of inspiration, just time to get it all done!

Thirsty is a 6-week course on how to respond to God’s Word with your creativity.  No longer are they to be two separate identities, but made one.  This is a personal experience between you and The Lord.  We will offer prompts to help water thoughts on God’s Word, but God will make it grow (1 Corinthians 3:7).

Set-up:  The theme throughout this course is Thirsty. Are you thirsty for more of The Lord?  Are you thirsty for a better understanding of how to read God’s Word?  Are you thirsty for more inspiration as an artist or musician?  Are you thirsty for creative conversation?  Are you thirsty for new techniques in your medium?  How can you help others who are thirsty?

You will enjoy this creative time in the hands of The Lord. And this will only strike the beginning of His endless fountain of inspiration found in His Word.  Turn your time and talents over to the Creator of all, and delight in creating with Him.

Each week will have a section in your bible, a “Reflection” page to record what the Holy Spirit highlights for you in those verses, an artist’s/musician’s/creative writer’s response to the scriptures, and a “Creative Response” page for your own personal creativity.
